“Dasha, you were an absolute dream to work with! Thank you for making us feel so comfortable, we are absolutely obsessed with our photos!”
Two people from opposite sides of the world bringing their families, friends and cultures together in Ireland.
Mikey is from New Zealand and Colleen is from Ireland. Having everyone they love travel from Ireland, UK, New Zealand, Australia, Portugal, Canada and elsewhere to be together in one place was a really meaningful part of the day for the couple.
From the bride and groom: “We would love you to tell that story not just of us getting married, but of everyone coming together to celebrate with us. There will be people who haven’t seen each other in years, friends travelling huge distances, different sides of our lives meeting for the first time, and lots of little moments that we probably won’t even notice on the day.
We’ve also tried to weave our two backgrounds into the wedding in subtle ways. Our ceremony will include both Gaeilge and Māori, including a “Kia Ora” on the welcome sign, and there may be a “Haka” from the New Zealanders later in the evening. We love that these details aren’t overly formal or staged but are little nods to where we both come from.
Family is a huge part of the day for us. My grandmother Una will light a candle at the beginning of the ceremony, which is a particularly special moment - we are very close. My dad has also made our table numbers and family tree, and has printed and framed our stationery and signage and put together a few vintage family wedding portraits.
For us, the day isn’t about everything being perfectly posed or styled. We want it to feel like a really beautiful, elegant version of a celebration with our favourite people.”
